Candlelight“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.” ~ James Keller.

Had an alfresco dinner with Singaporean mates that I made in New Zealand and a hyperactive Pinscher. Instead of a typical dinner at a restaurant in downtown, we went to a cosy restaurant in a suburban park surrounded by greenery. Guess it is a sign of older and maturity that we dislike crowd, or just that Singapore is getting too crowded for comfort.

We just wanted to catch up with one another life and spent a good deal of time reminiscing the good carefree days in Palmerston North Massey University. These are the same group of friends whom we met regularly for meals – both potluck and dining in restaurant.

With everyone so busy moving forward in life, it is difficult to gather everyone together for one evening. If counted, we probably meet about 3 to 5 times a year, as compared 3 to 5 times a week when we were in Palmerston North together. Usually, we gather when someone visits Singapore for a limited period of time.

Some of the places we enjoy visiting in Palmerston North are Aqaba, Cuba Cafe, Hana Mizu Ki, Coffee Club, etc. Well, we definitely went to McDonalds and KFC together too. Most of the time, we just gather at somebody’s flat for potluck. It is always an amazing bonding session by eating – the Singaporean style!

Aqaba fireplaceSince we are at the topic of candlelight, personally Aqaba is my favourite restaurant in PalmerstonNorth. Firstly, their breakfast (especially egg benedict) is amazing! The place is nice and cosy (equivalent to Wild Honey in Singapore). And the fireplace seat is really warm during winters! Difficult to get the seat there as we usually do not plan in advance.

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” ~ Buddha
