Auckland Sky Tower is 328m and the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand. Went to Auckland Sky Tower twice in my life, and the experience is slightly different both times.
Someone taught me the best time to enjoy such views are 1 hour before sunset. By doing so, you get to see the day view, watch the sunset and see the night view; all at 1 go at 1 ticket price!
First trip to Auckland Sky Tower
Went there for the first time with my Canadian colleague, Janice. It was an impromptu decision to visit the Sky Tower. We went in about 1 hour before sunset and camwhore all over the tower.
We started taking photos of our hands and legs and were giggling like mad. Even other visitors were having a good laugh at us for providing the entertainment.
When we were on the Sky Tower, we made another impromptu decision – have our dinner at the Orbit Restaurant. We had to go on the waiting list for a while, as you need to make reservation for this restaurant.
While waiting, we called another friend, Andy, to tell him that we are going to have candlelight dinner. Lucky us, someone cancelled their reservation and we got a space! And by the way, there was a candle during our dinner.
Second trip to Auckland Sky Tower
After that experience, I could better plan my next trip to the Sky Tower. Two weeks before the dinner, I made a reservation for three at 7.30 pm on http://www.skycityauckland.co.nz/ Restaurants/Orbit/Bookings.html. This time, I specifically requested for a window seat. That’s the whole point, isn’t it?
On the day itself, we arrived 1 hour earlier and requested if we could go up to the tower, instead of only 45 minutes before. Thankfully, they let us up with no issues.
After going 1 round, including the top deck (topped up the additional NZD $3), we proceeded to the Orbit Restaurant. We were 15 minutes early, but our seats were ready and waiting.
After dinner, we continued sightseeing at the observatory deck until we are done with all photography and viewing.
Both my experiences at the Sky Tower and Orbit Restaurant were fantastic! Great views, excellent customer service and yummy food, what more to ask for?
Other Dining in Auckland Sky Tower
Other than Orbit Revolving Restaurant, there is The Observatory and Sky Lounge as well. We did not want to eat at the Observatory as it was buffet style and more expensive. The Sky Lounge was more like a chill-out place than for proper meals.
Auckland Sky Tower opening hours
Sunday to Thursday – 8.30am to 10.30pm
Friday and Saturday – 8.30am to 11.30pm
Auckland Sky Tower prices
Main Observation Deck and Sky Deck – NZD $28.00/adult (recommended)
Main Observation Deck – NZD $25.00/adult
If you make a reservation for Orbit Restaurant, you get to go in 45 minutes before sitting time to the main observation deck, and top up NZD $3 if you want to go to the sky deck. Minimum spending at Orbit Restaurant is NZD$30. After your dinner, you can continue enjoying the view at the tower until closure.
Do remember to stamp your parking coupon for discounted parking!
Public Holiday surcharge
There is a public holiday surcharge of 15% on top of the total amount. Perhaps, you might want to check the New Zealand calendar before deciding when to dine in the Sky Tower.

Hey there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
